I have a confession to make. It’s one I’m not incredibly proud of, and may surprise – even shock – some people.
I was on Facebook one day perhaps a year ago, and a friend of mine had posted Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” video. I was bored. I hit play. I sort of fell in love.
Since then, I’ve downloaded my favorite songs of hers and listen to them without shame (except when certain friends are in my car; I spare them, per their request). And, have I mentioned that I have a helluva commute to the office? Long drive + favorite songs on MP3 player = well, you do the math.
But I digress. My point is that a Lady Gaga song came through my stereo today. Moonroof open, cruise control on, I did a mini-choreo to the song with tribal belly dance drills behind the wheel. So I thought I’d share it as a fun little thing to try. Don’t feel obligated to follow these moves exactly. In fact, I highly encourage to find another
Lady Gaga song and try your own drills, weekly, or even better, daily.
taxeem through melodic intro
singles through ra-ra, etc
double time at lyrics
switch to chest pops at second set of lyrics
chest circles at the chorus intro
shoulder shimmy (double time or Turkish)
And, etc; basically repeating the pattern
(If only I could control the image that YouTube decided to show in this embed.)
What’s your favorite music to do tribal belly dance drills to? The possibilities are endless; what’s important is to remember that you can find inspiration anywhere. 🙂
